Classics unbound is an informal classical concert series from the Masterworkers, a group of professional London musicians whose line has been that nobody should have to be uncomfortably seated, stuffily dressed or even sober to enjoy classical masterworks. The Brighton dates run in small rooms, in this case the Nautilus Lounge on St James's Street, capped at around 35 tickets, with no dress code and a relaxed performance approach. Programmes are deliberately mixed, taking in Bach, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Schumann and Piazzolla alongside crossover and popular pieces and even some bluegrass, so that everyone hears something they know and discovers something new. Players have included Gavin Davies, who has worked with the London Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestra, and conductor Murray Hipkin of English National Opera and West End musical direction.
