at the Cumberland Arms

A night of contemporary folk music with Craven and Sam Baxter and Merle Harbron.
Craven are a part English, part Welsh, dark folk trio based in the South West. Their music is at once grinding and symphonic, but also delicate and ethereal. Their sound draws far and wide from punk, electronic music, and film music as well as traditional music from both Europe and the wider world.
Sam Baxter and Merle Harbron are an Anglo/Scottish duo creating dynamic, full-bodied arrangements of contemporary and traditional music. Using fiddle, drones and voice, the pair build vibrant musical landscapes, weaving together melodic lines inspired and improvised from traditional songs and dance music.
