Albion Orchestra: Resistance

BENJAMIN BRITTEN Sinfonia da Requiem, Op. 20 DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 5, Op. 47

Conductor - Stone Tung

Join the Albion Orchestra at St Gabriel’s, Pimlico for an evening of drama and resilience. The programme opens with Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem, a powerful response to the devastation of war which moves towards a defiant conclusion.

The evening culminates in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, one of the twentieth century’s most compelling works. Written under intense political pressure in Soviet Russia, the symphony journeys from profound sorrow to a monumental finale.
