On Friday, May 1st, Weird Nightmare will release Hoopla, the engaging and melodic second LP from former METZ frontman Alex Edkins. Every band worth its salt has a member who worked in a record store. In METZ, the fearless noise rock trio who released five full-length albums on Sub Pop between 2012 and 2024, it was singer and guitarist Alex Edkins. Slinging indie rock and hardcore records in his hometown record store while attending university, Edkins became an ardent student of rock 'n' roll; from the psychedelic 1960s to the DIY 1990s and beyond. A sub pop signing whose second album 'hoopla' arrived in may 2026, a lean 33 minutes of sunny, hook-first guitar pop. The noise of the day job gets traded for melody, with piano, bells and castanets pushed up in the mix alongside the fuzz. Co-produced with jim eno and recorded at machines with magnets.

A brighton band who put bright surf guitar against hazy dream pop and a wash of shoegaze. Their debut ep is out in september 2026 and gets a launch show at the folklore rooms, with the set built for the immersive end of that sound.
