The open mics, jams and club nights that call this place home.
brunswick open mic
weekly, mondays
Brunswick Open Mic is a free, weekly open mic night held every Monday evening at The Brunswick in Hove, open to performers of all kinds — musicians, comedians, poets and beyond. The main-venue stage comes fully kitted out with a professional sound engineer, PA, lighting and an in-house keyboard, so all you need to bring is your act. Performers can reserve a slot in advance through the venue's Facebook group, or simply turn up from 7:30pm on the night.
Chloe Leigh & Pals
hosted by chloe leigh
A songwriter night curated by Brighton-based singer-songwriter Chloe Leigh, who invites a handful of friends from the local scene to share an evening at The Brunswick. Each edition is themed and numbered, and the bill is drawn from Brighton-based artists playing songs from around the world. Chloe Leigh's own material is folk with a Spanish streak, sung in English and Spanish, and takes its cues from Leonard Cohen. Doors at 7pm in the main room, £5 in advance, over-18s.
Haus of Velvet
occasional themed shows at the brunswick rather than a fixed monthly slot
Haus of Velvet is a Brighton cabaret outfit whose shows run in the cellar bar at the Brunswick in Hove. The bills mix drag and burlesque, pitched by the venue as going from devastating drag to bedroom burlesque, and each outing gets its own title: Chaos Cabaret in June 2026, Behind closed doors in August 2026. Shows are over 18s only, with doors at 7pm and fifteen pound tickets. Who runs the Haus is not stated publicly, so the individual names behind it are unconfirmed.
Machine Learning
monthly at the brunswick in hove · hosted by Brighton EMOM (electronic music open mic), run by Lee Kew Moss / LEKEMO
Machine Learning is Brighton EMOM's monthly night of electronic sounds of all types at the Brunswick in Hove, run by Lee Kew Moss (LEKEMO). Each edition puts on around eight confirmed local electronic acts plus two open-mic slots that anyone can take on the night, all played out under abstract visual projections. Entry is free, and the billing is deliberately broad: electronic sounds of all types, from an eclectic mix of local artists. If you make electronic music and want a slot, the organiser takes expressions of interest by email.
Rey Rave
recurring afternoon editions at the brunswick, several a year rather than a fixed weekly or monthly slot · hosted by Rey Rey Records
Rey Rave is a daytime rave for children and their grown-ups, run by Rey Rey Records and held at the Brunswick in Hove. The soundtrack is 90s club classics, garage, jungle and old skool, played to a room of kids with glow sticks, goody bags and prizes for best dressed and best dancer. Doors are early afternoon, tickets are pay what you want, and it is all ages with the rule that every adult must be accompanied by a child. The August 2026 edition is billed as its first birthday at the venue, so the night dates back to summer 2025.
Chaps and Straps
a recurring night that moves between brighton venues (the brunswick in hove and the komedia basement) on individual dates rather than a fixed weekly slot · hosted by drag king Small Willy Nelson (@smallwillynelson)
Chaps and Straps is Brighton's queer line dancing night, hosted by drag king Small Willy Nelson, and it lands at the Brunswick in Hove as well as at Komedia. You are taught three easy line dances of about half an hour each, with open floor time in between to practise and mingle, set to country classics and queer pop. It is beginner friendly with no pressure, dances are taught with options for different gender expressions, and western dress is encouraged but optional. Brunswick dates have sold out before, so book ahead rather than turning up.
Jazz Jam
weekly, tuesdays · hosted by paul richards
Brighton's longest-running jazz jam, held every Tuesday evening at The Brunswick in Hove, has been hosted by guitarist Paul Richards since July 2010. The night draws musicians from across the south of England for a freewheeling session in the venue's main room. Entry is free from 8pm, with a £3 early-admission option from 7.15pm that guarantees you a table.
Think Artillery
the brunswick lists it as a standalone date rather than on a fixed weekly or monthly cycle · hosted by the Recovering Artists' Collective
Think Artillery is a two-hour show at the Brunswick in Hove from the Recovering Artists' Collective, pitched somewhere between stand-up and performance art. The venue's own billing leans into the ambiguity: it is surreal, and you have to see it to work out what it is. Entry is three pounds on the door for over 18s, doors at 8pm, and ticket holders get twenty per cent off food in the main bar beforehand.
Open Mic Night
weekly, every monday
The Brunswick Open Mic Night is a free weekly event held every Monday in the Main Venue at The Brunswick in Hove, welcoming musicians, comedians, poets, and all other performer types to take the stage. The show starts at 8pm with a professional sound engineer, full PA, stage lighting, and an in-house keyboard all provided. Performers can sign up in advance via the venue's Facebook group or simply walk in from 7:30pm on the night.
The SHOT Show
hosted by daniel walker and nick sefton
The SHOT Show is a Brighton night of comedy, music and cabaret produced by comedian Daniel Walker and hosted by Nick Sefton. It puts established Brighton comics and musicians on the same bill as new acts taking their shot, so the lineup changes every time, and the pair pitch it as a warm, welcoming night built on laughter, music and community spirit. It started in the cellar bar at the Brunswick in Hove in August 2025, has also played the Secret Comedy Club in the Lanes, and is over 18s only.
brunswick jazz jam
weekly, tuesdays · hosted by paul richards
Brighton's longest-running jazz jam, held every Tuesday evening in The Brunswick's main venue in Hove. Guitarist Paul Richards has hosted the session since July 2010, leading a rotating house trio of guitar, bass and drums that opens the floor to players of any style and level. Swing, bebop, latin, funk, trad, and everything in between are all welcome, and the night traditionally closes with all musicians joining together for a collective blues.
Gigs from the last year, most recent first.
