Joy Presents: Shallowater Born where the dust bowl never died, the West-Texas raised trio that is Shallowater – Blake Skipper (guitar/vocals), Tristan Kelly (bass) and Ryan Faulkenberry (drums) – combine slowcore, post-hardcore, country, and Americana elements that defy genre labels. Their 2025 album god's gonna give you a million dollars was named album of the week by stereogum. The songs move slowly and leave a lot of air, whispered vocals over guitars that sag and stretch, a sound the band calls west texas dirtgaze. Formed in lubbock in 2021, they now work out of houston and release records themselves.
